The social proof bias
This is the tendency to follow or to conform to the decisions or the actions of other people, especially when we are uncertain or when we lack information or experience. For example, if we see that other members of our team or our organization are impressed by a candidate, we may be more likely to be impressed by them as well, even if we have not had the chance to evaluate them ourselves. The social proof bias can cause us to make biased or irrational hiring decisions, and it can lead us to overlook the value of independence, judgment, or skepticism in the hiring process.
